The School of Education at Syracuse University is looking for an individual who will teach PED 200 Ice Skating (1 credit)

Course Description: Upon completion of this course, students will have a basic knowledge of the sport, enabling them to advance to more specialized areas of skating. “Basic skills” are the fundamentals of the sport. There are eight levels of the program to introduce fundamental techniques.

Qualifications

Discipline-specific instructor certification required.

Job Specific Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Exercise Science or a related field and college teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
  • Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Participating in departmental meetings or workshops.
  • Completing data reporting as required.
  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
  • Other responsibilities as indicated.
  • Physical Requirements

    The candidate will need to demonstrate the physical skills required to lead students through the appropriate activity.
