The Department of Transmedia within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-time Instructor to teach FIL 124 Filmmaking Workshop: Concepts, a three credit hour course, during the spring 2022 semester. There are two open sections.

Film is a medium requires an more than simple technical skills. This course introduces the basic concepts of the cinematic elements, aesthetics and production techniques for film.

Qualifications

Must have a 3rd year graduate student or MFA

Job Specific Qualifications

MFA degree should be in filmmaking or video

Responsibilities

Must be able to teach a studio class once a week for 4 hours, grade assignments, and create syllabus.

Must be able to make sure the students are able to leave the class being able to do the following:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the complex processes of a film production, including the various departments and their interactions.
  • Demonstrate technical skills in the camera, light, sound and editing departments of film production by creating short etudes utilizing the assigned equipment.
  • Demonstrate abilities to function as a team member of a film production.
  • In addition: · Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.

    · Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.

    · Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.

    · Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.

    · Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.

    · Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

    · Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.

    · Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.

    · Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
