Job Summary
This position is a part-time position with flexible hours. The position
manages university projects as assigned. Reviews plans for code compliance and
proper design. Assists in the management and coordination of activities
involving comprehensive planning of campus facilities, master planning of the
university environment, formulation of project criteria for alternatives,
repairs, and renovations to ensure physical needs of the university are
fulfilled. Supervises the update and renewal of CAD drawings and as-built
drawings.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Plans, programs, and/or coordinates the completion of university-funded projects with the building occupants, Physical Plant personnel, and professional firms (as needed) regarding work methods, interpretation and clarification of drawings, and the scheduling and coordination of work performed by university staff, contract labor, and sub-contractors. Requests work and cost proposals for in-house projects as needed. Coordinates with Physical Plant administration to submit work orders, prepare purchase orders, and approve payment for in-house payment. Assists on campus departments with furniture configurations, obtaining quotes, and ordering of new furniture as needed.
Directs the drafting/CAD/archive functions to maintain facility and project record files and databases.Manages the space allocations of university departments and make recommendations for re-allocation of space.Develops and/or supervises the preparation of complex drawings, specifications, and works schedules for alterations, additions, and renovations to university facilities. Assists Parking Management with revisions to the campus parking map. Coordinates E-911 addressing for new construction projects with the Forrest County Emergency Management District.
Confers with appropriate faculty/administrators to determine programmatic needs and scope of proposed alterations, additions, and renovations to facilities; analyzes feasibility of change, explores alternative designs, incorporates building system requirements, fire code requirements, and ADA standards; and designs and estimates the cost of the proposed work. Provides recommendations on fit, location, and potential space configuration for large and small campus projects. Assists with the design and estimation of the cost of the proposed work. Provides internal project progress reports as requested.
Accurately completes university space allocation documents, requested by the Bureau of Buildings and all forms required by the Institutions of Higher Learning, and submits them in a timely manner. Performs quality assurance checks of plans and specifications to assist with coordination of disciplines at each phase of production through CD's as requested. Performs ADA compliance checks as requested. Maintains share file of existing electronic base plans for all Hattiesburg campus buildings and prepares new base plans for newly constructed or purchased buildings. Prepares, packages, and sends large electronic files using file transfer service, as requested. Maintains campus design standards manual.
Maintain and submit Facilities Inventory and Classification Manual (FICM) -coded university space allocation spreadsheet for all four campuses. Submits Bureau of Building (BOB) Enhanced Information System (EIS) materials and campus inventory of added and deleted buildings. Submits Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) phased project approval forms. Coordinates with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) in the preparation of Notices of Intent for work that is proposed for any historic campus building. Coordinates as required with personnel from various State agencies. Develops functional research space allocation spreadsheet to assist in the determination of rates.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction, Interior Design, Project Management,
Engineering, Architecture, and two years related experience in facilities or
construction and/or training equivalent with a combination of education and
experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of architectural production processes.
Knowledge of applicable codes (IBC, ADA, etc.)
Knowledge and understanding of space use codes as applicable through the
Facilities Inventory and Classification Manual (FICM.)
Knowledge of historic preservation principles as outlined in The Secretary
of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty
and staff, students, and the general public.
Ability to work collaboratively and building strategic relations with
colleagues, coworkers, constituents and volunteers.
Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database and
word processing software.
Skill in active learning by understanding the implications of new
information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-
making.
Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to
develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
Ability to analyze complex information and develop plans to address

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple
deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 4 years related experience. Registered and licensed through the
Mississippi Board of Architecture or successful completion of the National
Council of Architectural Registration Boards architect registration exam.
Experience working on historical preservation projects. Experience as a
consultant working at a higher education institution and/or experience working
as an Owner's Representative at a higher education institution.
