WORK ASSIGNMENT: PHYT 5202.03 Scientific Inquiry I (Sept 6 to April 27, 2023 inclusive of Exam Periods) Multiple Positions available
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Numerous instructors will be required to assist the course leader during weekly lab session, by facilitating learning activities to develop knowledge and skills for evidence-based practice. In the fall term, labs will run Monday morning between 10 and 12 (1 hour per week); during the winter term, labs are scheduled to run Tuesday afternoon and Friday morning (2 hours per week). A case-oriented learning model is used to help students develop knowledge and skills for using evidence in patient-centered physiotherapy practice, using the 5As framework (Assess; Ask: Acquire; Appraise; Apply; Self Reflect), and the ICF model. Case content is designed to help students apply evidence to inform the clinical diagnosis, selection and interpretation of fundamental physiotherapy assessments, and selection and evaluation of designated physiotherapy interventions. Instructors will be assigned to lab sessions based on specific lab dates and instructor expertise.
Description of the duties:
o Attendance at Lab orientation session (1 hr prior to Sept 8, date TBD).
o Preparation in advance for each lab activities.
o During labs, facilitate student engagement in learning activities, as outlined in the lab handout, to support development of knowledge, skills and behaviours for collaborative learning, and for using evidence and scientific methods in physiotherapy practice.
o Promote a professional inclusive environment for safe and effective student learning.
o Provision of formative and/or summative assessments of student learning during labs, under direction of the course professor.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
An educational background including research design, statistical analyses, research appraisal and synthesis is needed. Strong communication skills, a positive attitude toward students, fairness in evaluation and grading, flexibility in approaches to teaching are required. Experience or expertise in the healthcare, and experience and familiarity with group dynamics in their work or study is required. Licensure as a physiotherapist is preferred along with a Master's degree and/or advanced continuing education courses. Expertise and experience specific to the history and unique experiences of African Nova Scotians, and/or to the history and unique experience of Indigenous Peoples, including the Mi'kmaq, is preferred.

All offers of employment as a Part-Time Academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University.
