We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced paediatric Speech and language Therapist (SLT) to join our team managing the general paediatric caseload including ENT, to cover maternity leave.
You will be joining the acute paediatric SLT team that consists of 7 team members, and will have the opportunity to work with Specialist multi- disciplinary teams based at Southampton's Children Hospital, a major centre for paediatric services in the south of England delivering tertiary services across the region.
The department of dietetics and speech and language therapy employs more than 100 staff, with clinical experts working across the range of specialties, providing acute services in both adults and paediatrics. As a tertiary hospital, we have senior SLTs in a wide range of specialist areas. There is access to regular CPD sessions, and opportunities to engage in service development and research.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities YOUR RESPONSIBILITIESYou will: • Work with in- and out-patients. • Provide regular communication and swallowing assessment and therapy. • Continually represent the SLT service alongside paediatric colleagues. • Be innovative in your approach to patient care and service delivery , whilst being part of the dynamic MDT developing service initiatives. • You will work closely with MDT colleagues to achieve optimal care for patients and their families.. • You will support patients to have instrumental assessment of their swallowing where appropriate.
We are looking for individuals who are: • Passionate about working in acute paediatrics. • Experienced in working in the acute hospital setting. • Experienced in working with ENT. • Experienced in working with infants and children. • A skilled advocate and representative of SLT. • An excellent communicator with children and adults. • Able to thrive in a busy, constantly changing and complex environment. • Eager to increase their knowledge and skills.
Motivated applicants with experience in equivalent acute adult specialities may also apply as they may have valuable transferable skills. Training can be provided.
This is currently a 5 day service, but there is potential that this could become a 7 day service in the future.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONOur team consists of a range of clinical leads and specialists who foster and support staff across a wide range of clinical areas, helping to provide excellent learning opportunities.
We take pride in being a tertiary centre, providing highly specialised treatment for our patients who have complex needs as well as undertaking instrumental assessments as a crucial part of the management of dysphagia. As a high performing team we offer FEES and VF to both in- and out-patients. As part of the SLT team you would have access to colleagues and other senior therapists for support and regular, scheduled, clinical supervision which is considered an essential part of your ongoing development.
We are a responsive, dynamic and flexible department, and we are always challenging ourselves and others to ensure we are meeting individual patient needs in the most efficient and evidence-based way.
