Position Summary

UNC Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health, part of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, seeks to hire a full-time (40 hours per week) Clinical Instructor faculty member. The position will be part of the case management team working closely with Center's community programs based in Carrboro providing assertive case management services in the community.

Case Management Services include support for coordination and support for services such as housing assistance, financial assistance, legal assistance, and financial counseling. The faculty member will provide clinical case management, motivational interviewing, shared decision making, and assist with real world problem solving. Additional responsibilities include the following:

  • Assure that clients are appropriately connected to community-based services.
  • Develop case management plans based on assessments.
  • Assist with accessing appropriate and cost-effective services and/or supports in the community.
  • Assist with addressing barriers to healthcare including but not limited to financial, transportation, appropriate housing.
  • The office is located in Carrboro, NC. Partial remote work may be considered.

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Applicants for the Clinical Instructor position must have a Master's degree in Social Work or a relevant human services field. Candidates must be fully licensed or at minimum, credentialed with an associate status. The following licenses will be considered: LCSW, LMFT, LCMHC, LCSWA, LMFTA, or LCMHCA.

    Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Direct work experience with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses is preferred.
  • Skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and respect for client rights and personal preferences in treatment and services are very beneficial to this position.
  • Knowledge of mental illness and mental health social service systems is desired.
  • Ability to navigate complex systems and to participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team is preferred.
