Position Summary

The Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE), fixed-term position at the Clinical Instructor level for the UNC Schizophrenia Evaluation and Treatment (STEP) Clinic in Carrboro, NC. The STEP Clinic provides comprehensive psychiatric and recovery services to approximately 700 individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and other mental health conditions. Role responsibilities for this individual include: Provide evidence-based psychotherapy services to adults with psychotic disorders, mood disorders, substance use disorders and other psychiatric conditions. Complete comprehensive clinical assessments for diagnosis and treatment planning. Participate in clinic and health system continuous quality improvement initiatives. Provide education to patients and families around issues related to adaptation to the patient's diagnosis and treatment. Maintain working knowledge of and liaison with community agencies and resources. Carry out other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Applicant must hold a Master's Degree in Social Work or related health field. Must have a strong commitment to the right and ability of each person with a severe and persistent mental illness to live in normal community residences; work in market jobs; and have access to helpful, adequate, competent, and continuous support services. Skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and respect for client rights and personal preferences in treatment are essential.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

LCSW full licensure is preferred. LCSW-A, LMFT, LMFT-A, LCMHC and LCMHC-A may be considered. At least two years of direct work experience with person with severe and persistent mental illness is preferred.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements

Supervision towards licensure is available. A benefit to the selected candidate is to receive on-site licensure supervision incorporated into the work week. Supervision towards licensure can be fulfilled under a licensed and experienced staff, up to 1 hour a week.
