The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate
academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching,
research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The
Assistant Professor's teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic
department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant
Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with
teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research,
based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of
Description of Primary Duties
The primary teaching responsibilities of this position are to work
collaboratively with other OT faculty members to coordinate and teach OT
courses and train students, deliver a high-quality, engaging, and consistent
experience across the OT program. Duties also include advising students.
Tenure track faculty must develop and maintain an active research program.
Service responsibilities include collaborating with all members of the
department to obtain and maintain accreditation and clinical placement sites.
Additional service includes serving on the university, college, and
departmental committees participating in activities that contribute to the
community and the public affairs mission of the University.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor
are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of,
respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds
An earned doctorate (Ph.D., EdD, OTD, or equivalent in a related field) or
ABD will be considered, with expected completion by the start date for a
tenure track position. The degrees must be awarded by an institution that is
accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of
Education. The faculty must have the experiential qualifications necessary to
meet program objectives and the mission of the institution. Faculty must
possess the expertise in their area(s) of teaching responsibility necessary
to ensure appropriate curriculum design, content delivery, and program
evaluation. Faculty must remain competent to ensure delivery of the broad
scope of occupational therapy practice. Certification as an occupational
therapist by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy and
eligibility for licensure in the state of Missouri is required. A current
unencumbered license to practice as an occupational therapist in the state of
Missouri must be obtained by the date of employment and maintained throughout
employment. Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
are required. Effective organization skills and the ability to prioritize
effectively are required. Computer literacy is required. The ability to
develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of diverse
cultures or backgrounds is required.
