Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated academic staff scientist (MSc) to support ongoing ovarian cancer projects involving organoid culture and establishing an ovarian cancer organoid living biobank.
Our research
The Wennerberg group focuses on identifying drug-resistant subpopulations in ovarian cancer in the framework of precision medicine. Our research models are patient-derived organoids (PDOs) – long-term cultures of patient cells isolated from tumors. We have developed a robust protocol to establish ovarian cancer PDOs from cryopreserved samples and established 17 long-term organoid models, which have been validated to confirm their genetic identity over time. Moreover, we have performed pharmacologic and phenotypic characterizations, and optimized different assays for our organoid platform (Senkowski et al.). Our aim is to understand the phenotypes of the drug-resistant tumor-initiating cells, their mechanisms of drug resistance as well as to identify therapeutic strategies to overcome it.
Your job
You will be a central part of a team of academic scientists composed by 3 post-docs and 2 Ph.D. fellows. Your main task will be to establish new organoid cultures from patient samples and maintain existing cultures while managing the biobank. For that, you will work in close collaboration with the team members and adjust your work to the needs of the team. You will lead the work on preparation and ordering of reagents for organoid culture as well as on culture passaging. In addition to the biobank tasks, you will also contribute to the optimization of our culturing method and to the characterization of organoid models based on patients' clinical information. Finally, you will be expected to contribute to and support the ongoing research projects in the group on an ad hoc basis; disseminate your expertise to new lab members and support the lab management.
