Who we are

The Faculty of Dentistry - Te Kaupeka Pūniho - has an international reputation for clinical and research excellence. Founded in 1907, it is New Zealand's National Centre for Dentistry. It forms an integral part of the Division of Health Sciences within the University of Otago.

The role

An opportunity exists within the Department of Oral Sciences for a new Oral Health Therapist/Dental Hygienist to join the team.

Your primary role will be to provide supportive periodontal care for patients with periodontitis and/or dental implants. You will provide this specialist- level care as part of a team, led by Periodontics staff, that includes postgraduate and undergraduate students. You will apply primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention protocols, increasing patient awareness of their dental health and preventing plaque-related diseases from occurring.

As we are a teaching and research focused dental facility, you may also participate as a member of clinical research teams and undertake clinical practice within research protocols.

Your skills and experience

• A seasoned professional with excellent organisational skills. • An openness and capability to learn new technologies. • A confident communication style and the ability to interact across all mediums. • Bachelor of Oral Health or equivalent. • Registration with the Dental Council NZ as an Oral Health Therapist or Dental Hygienist.

This is a permanent, part-time position (20 hrs a week).
