Description
NECO Center for Eye Care is New England College of Optometry's (NECO) owned
and operated clinical system. Our profession's top ODs, opticians and
dedicated staff work alongside optometric students to provide world-class eye
care within a state-of-the-art environment located on Commonwealth Avenue in
Boston and on Washington Street in Roslindale, MA. This position is located at
the Commonwealth Avenue location in Boston.
The Commonwealth Optical Center is a fast-paced, retail-oriented business
providing patients and customers with comprehensive, high-quality services
ranging from frame and lens selection, to fittings, to contact lenses, to
edging in our on-site lab. We seek an experienced, licensed optician with a
demonstrated history of success.
Ensure safety, efficiency and quality in materials production;
Accurate input of data and ophthalmic order information into patient
medical records;
Identify patient vision benefits in an accurate manner and clearly explain
how to apply benefits for ophthalmic orders;
Communicate with patients in the optical department in person, by email or
by telephone;
Demonstrate exceptional product knowledge; able to communicate features
and benefits of products to patients;
Collaborate with the Lead Optician to achieve department goals, resolve
conflicts, and ensure high standards of customer care and service;
Leverage the EHR (Compulink), online ordering protocols, and using the
latest optical center technology to ensure operational efficiency and
effectiveness;
Produce high quality eyewear through selecting lenses, marking, taping,
blocking, generating, polishing, coating, tinting, grooving, UV and anti-
reflective coating of lenses;
Attention to detail to ensure high quality eyeglass production; final
inspection of all lab orders prior being dispensed to the customer
Collaborate with the Lead Optician and clinical faculty to increase
capture rates for frame and lens orders;
Develop and maintain professional relationships, in conjunction with the
Lead Optician, with vendors and manufacturers in the ophthalmic industry,
and negotiating pricing and partnerships to improve profitability;
Maintain professional standards and job skills through continuing
education
Administrative duties as required.

Requirements
Current Massachusetts optician license required
Previous experience as dispensing optician and in optical sales
Experience in the use of Electronic Health Records, ideally Compulink.
Excellent interprofessional skills
The optician position will require working 1-2 Saturdays per month (8am-2pm)
Salary Description
Range: $66,000-$69,000/year
