Position Description

This position is onsite at 33 West 42nd Street New York, NY 10036

The University Eye Center seeks a talented and enthusiastic New York State licensed optician, with excellent leadership and technical skills, to join the optical team as the manager of the Essilor Eyewear Center. This individual will work collaboratively with other departments and department heads, faculty, staff, optometric students. patients and vendors. The successful candidate must be an effective leader who takes initiative, leads by example, meets deadlines, and fosters a spirit of teamwork to motivate and engage staff to meet their goals and objectives. Strong communication, problem solving and written skills are expected. Exceptional customer service, the ability to cater to our patients, and strong managerial skills are required.

To achieve this objective, the successful candidate will be responsible to:

  • Coordinate services for patients and provide oversite and management of workflows, schedules, resolving issues, and reporting. Initiate and be actively involved in quality assessment and improvement activities.
  • Having ongoing communication with patients and staff and recruit, develop,supervise, and evaluate administrative employees and opticians. Scheduled staff and interns assigned to the Essilor Eyewear Center and monitor attendance. Creates a high performing team through training and organization.
  • Maximize production capabilities of the on-site finishing lab to ensure efficient and orderly flow of materials and monitoring turnaround time, costs, and compliance with ANSI standards.
  • Manage the department budget and track expenditures, make purchasing decisions for frames, accessories and lens laboratories, conduct annual review of fee structure.
  • Monitor and measure department productivity, goal achievement, and overall effectiveness.
  • Evaluate the material components of managed care plans annually and recommend changes to the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Provide direct patient care and supervise optometric interns assigned to the Essilor Eyewear Center.
  • Consult with professional and clinical staff in the coordination of patient care and management objectives.
  • Implement UEC and departmental policies and oversee the facility, equipment, supplies, and inventory.
  • Required Experience: • Current New York State Opticians License • 2 years of proven managerial experience • Knowledge of vision care plans and coverage • Computer literacy with proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) • Ability to work some evenings and weekends

    Preferred Experience: • Bachelor's degree preferred • Bilingual skills • Electronic health records experience

    Hours : Full-time, Monday – Friday (Ability to work some evenings and/or Saturdays)

    Annual Salary (including location pay) is $75,000 and there is also a generous benefit package. 15 days of annual leave to start and 13 paid holidays per year. We are a qualifying employer in the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. View our Benefits at a Glance
