Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Position Summary

The Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine invites applications for several tenure track positions at the level of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor.

The Department provides a robust environment for investigation of cellular behaviors within a physiological context, and is the 2nd nationally-ranked physiology department in total NIH funding. Faculty within the unit benefit from robust interdisciplinary research collaborations between other departments, centers and schools at UNC. UNC faculty, postdocs and graduate students also interact with colleagues at nearby Duke and North Carolina State Universities, as well as other institutions in Research Triangle Park. The quality of life in North Carolina's Triangle area is consistently rated among the highest in the nation, most recently securing the No. 2 spot overall in U.S. News & World Report's 2021 “ Best Places to Live ”. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

The successful candidate must have an exceptional record of publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, a well-defined research vision, and will be expected to establish and maintain an innovative, externally funded research program. Applicants may have research interests in broad aspects of cell biology and physiology and may employ a wide variety of experimental approaches and animal models. Research areas of particular interest include gastrointestinal biology, endocrine physiology, neurodegeneration and cardiovascular physiology. Outstanding work in any discipline that capitalizes on the integration of cellular function with physiological states will be considered. Basic science applicants with demonstrated experience in leading clinical collaborations are encouraged to apply.
