Position Summary Information

Duties

Athens State University announces an Open Rank position in Music Industry Studies for leadership and instruction, as appropriate, in: music directing, songwriting/arranging, music publishing, artist management, record label and publishing, and other areas within the candidate's interest and expertise. The candidate will work with the Department Chair and Dean to: establish and develop a robust curriculum in Music Industry Studies, hire and coordinate adjunct instruction in Music, serve as the content expert in matters of curriculum, standards, and accreditation in music industry, and develop rich industry and community connections for the purposes of student recruitment and job/internship placement.

DUTIES :

In addition to adhering to the general faculty guidelines, as specified by Athens State University, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Provost/VPAA, duties include:

  • Teach a variety of upper-division (junior/senior) courses in Music/Music Industry Studies
  • Develop and deliver courses and musical ensembles of high quality
  • Establish and promote a record label and publishing company within the Alabama Center for the Arts
  • Work with and advise a range of students and to assist them in achieving academic and career success
  • Serve on university, college, and departmental committees as needed or assigned
  • Participate in the recruitment activities of the Alabama Center for the Arts, college, and university
  • Assume any other professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by administrative personnel
  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS : A Master's degree in Music, Music Performance, or Music Industry (or related field) or professional equivalency. Preference given to applicants with music industry or college teaching experience.

    Located in historic Athens, Alabama, Athens State University offers junior and senior-level coursework to community college graduates and transfer students holding sufficient credits from other institutions. Presently, over 3,100 students have selected Athens State because of its neighborly environment where 50 majors and degree programs are offered, with courses taught by a supportive and exceptional faculty. Approximately 80% of the students are enrolled in at least one online course. The typical student is a working adult who commutes. The University offers undergraduate degree programs in Liberal Arts, Teacher Preparation, and Business.
