  • Field of Research

  • Mathematics / Natural Sciences
  • Subjects Computational Biology Description The Helmholtz Center in Munich (HMGU), Germany, is a member of one of the leading research associations in Europe - the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. The aim of our research is to proactively detect health risks involving humans and the environment, decoding the mechanisms of pathogenesis and developing concepts for prevention and therapy.

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology and/or Integrative Biology to join the interdisciplinary and international research team headed by Prof. Fabiana Perocchi at the Institute for Diabetes and Obesity (https: // www. helmholtz- and the Neuronal Cell biology Institute of the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Our research program examines different aspects of one over-arching phenomenon: “The integration of mitochondria into intracellular signalling networks”, with the long-term goals to decipher shared, mitochondrial-dependent pathomechanisms of neuro-metabolic diseases. To this goal we integrate computational and experimental approaches that systematically survey metabolism, proteome composition, assembly, and regulation, at the tissue, cell and organellar level.

The candidate will work closely with the PI and be co-supervised by a senior researcher in computational biology and applied mathematics and become part of a highly interdisciplinary and stimulating research environment including bioinformaticians, cell biologists, neurologists and clinicians at both HMGU and TUM.
