The scholarship provides that the work plan responds to the following
1. The PhD student will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team in
activities related to neuromuscular adaptations to training and physical
activity (preparing experimental setups, recording, processing and analyzing
2. Construction and implementation of a PhD research project at the
Neuromuscular Research Lab. The scientific supervision of the scholarship
holder will be ensured by an integrated researcher of the Neuromuscular
Research Lab. The skills acquired in point 1 will be essential to the
achievement of what is provided for in point 2
3. The PhD student will also support the functioning of the Pos-Graduation
course Strenght & Conditioning (administrative tasks and teaching support).
- Announcement/ notification of the results: All candidates will be notified
through the e-mail address indicated in the application of the Final Result of
the Evaluation. If the result is unfavourable to the award of the grant
requested, the candidates shall have a period of 10 (ten) working days,
after the publication referred to in the previous number, to give their
opinion, if they so wish, in a prior hearing of interested parties, under the
terms set out in the Portuguese Administrative Procedure Code (CPA).
Monthly maintenance allowance: According to the values for Research
Fellowships awarded by FCT in Portugal
(https:// www. fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ), the amount of the monthly
maintenance allowance is 1 144,64€, being Bank Transfer the payment method.
Other benefits: Reimbursement (upon request) of Seguro Social Voluntário,
correspondent to the 1st “escalão da base de incidência contributiva”, and
personal accident insurance.
An amount of two thousand seven hundred and fifty euros (EUR 2,750.00) shall
be added to the monthly maintenance allowance each year as a contribution
towards the costs of training, as well as the cost of enrolment/registration
fees at the FMH.
The payment of the training costs as well as of the enrolment/registration
fees is made in order to ensure the fulfilment of the respective due dates
established in the tuition fees regulations, and corresponds to one payment
for each full contract year.

- Selection method: The selection method will be based on curricular
evaluation that takes into account the candidate's merit and previous
experience in research methods of neuromuscular function.
Applications considered admissible will be scored on a scale from 0 to 20 in
each of the following evaluation criteria.
Criterion A – master's final grade, with a weight of 30%.
Criterion B – final graduation grade, with a weight of 15%.
Criterion C – completion of the Postgraduate course in Strength & Conditioning
held at FMH-UL and respective final grade, with a weight of 15%.
Criterion D – previous laboratory experience leading to operational skills of
data collection and processing within the scope of neuromuscular function,
with a weight of 30%.
Criterion E – other curricular elements that the jury considers relevant, with
a weight of 10%.
For the purposes of the final decision, candidates will be ranked according to
the weighted average of the classification obtained in each of the three
criteria, translated by the following formula
Final Classification = (0.3×A)+(0.15×B)+(0.15×C)+(0.30×D)+(0.1×E)
In case of equality between candidates in the final classification, the
ranking of candidates will be based on the classifications given to each of
the assessment criteria in the following order of precedence: criterion D
followed by the criterion C.
Candidates with foreign certificates who do not present proof of the
conversion of the final classification into the Portuguese classification
scale will be evaluated with the minimum classification (10 points) in
criterion A and B.

To apply for the PhD Research Scholarship it is necessary to:
a) Be graduated and master in the field of Sports Science.
b) Living in Portugal permanently and regularly.
c) To be enrolled in a PhD course or demonstrate that he/she meets the
requirements to enroll in a PhD course. A proof of enrolment must be provided
by the time the grant is contracted.
