Job Title OMA Brother 2 Brother Mentor Coordinator 2023-2024

General Description

The Brother 2 Brother Peer Mentoring program, provided by the Office of Multicultural Affairs is created to support first year students in their transition to student life at Stephen F. Austin State University. The program emphasizes the importance of academic excellence, multiculturalism, inclusion and personal growth. This peer-to-peer mentoring program sponsors and encourages attendance at specific programs in which mentors and mentees actively interact and participate.

Job Duties

Coordinator is expected to work 5-10 hours a week during the fall semester. The Coordinator will work with the OMA Director, Assistant Director, and Graduate Assistant to coordinate peer mentor trainings, meetings, Brother 2 Brother mentor socials, program projects, and incentive programs. The Coordinator will also be assigned mentees to meet with bi-weekly. Mentor first-year students for the 2022-2023 academic year. Meet Bi-weekly with each mentee, in addition to communicating through e-mails, phone calls, and text messages (weekly). Reach out to all assigned mentees and reply in a timely manner. Attend weekly meetings with the OMA's Graduate Assistant. Turn in weekly – “Mentor Reporting Rubric”. Remain committed to the program and maintain communication with all the mentees and the Graduate Assistant. Encourage mentees to utilize campus resources while exhibiting similar behaviors. Attend all B2B Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program supplemental trainings unless you have class, work or an emergency, (i.e. Sickness, accident, death, etc.), Attend at least one monthly event (OMA or other SFA related event with your mentees) Serve as a representative of SFA in a variety of situations.

Required Qualifications

An OMA Brother 2 Brother Program Coordinator must understand and believe in the goals of the University and the OMA programs. You must have at least a 2.75 G.P.A. (cumulative and current) or higher; professional skills, must be knowledgeable of Microsoft office, great communication skills, leadership abilities, experience with peer mentorship and multicultural awareness, and participation in OMA events or organizations is preferred (although not required). In addition, must be able to work 5-10 hours a week during the fall and spring semester.

Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands Special Conditions for Eligibility

A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.

Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
