Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Nurse Clinician in Medicine Hematology at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Hemophilia Treatment Center is seeking a Nurse Clinician to work under the direction of the Chief of Hematology/ Director of the Hemophilia Treatment Center. The Nurse Clinician will utilize specialized knowledge and skills to provide comprehensive care to individuals and groups of patients with hemophilia, bleeding disorders, and thrombotic disorders.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Assesses the health status of assigned patients as outlined in the Nursing standards.
  • Assists in the initial assessment and development of plans for management of adult and pediatric patients with hemophilia, bleeding, and thrombotic disorders.
  • Administers clotting factor concentrates and other medications intravenously.
  • Draws blood for specialized coagulation testing and pharmakinetic recovery studies after clotting factor administration and other IV medications.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates individualized care based on patient assessment and medical plan of care.
  • Coordinates implementation of perioperative hemostatic management and coordinates delivery and implementation home care nursing services for factor concentrate treatment.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a Registered Nurse license to practice in the State of New Jersey.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • Prior experience of one to three (1-3) years of clinical experience with patients with hematologic disorders, including bleeding and clotting disorders.
  • Documented experience with management of patients on blood thinning agents.
  • Certifications/Licenses

  • Current License to practice Nursing in the State of New Jersey.
  • Basic Life Support.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective oral and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires standing to 2/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting to 2/3 of the time, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel to 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise environment with some exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment; some potential exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to hazardous waste.
