  • By decision of the Board of Directors, NOVA.id.FCT - Associação para a Inovação e Desenvolvimento da FCT (“NOVA.id.FCT”) opens an international call to hire a Research Manager, with a PhD degree, with the internal reference “#NOVAID200”, under a unfixed term employment contract to conduct research and development activities in the field of Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology in the scope of the Projects " 101046758 — EcoPlastiC — HORIZON-EIC-2021-PATHFINDEROPEN-01" and “101081776 — AgriLoop — HORIZON-CL6-2022-CIRCBIO-01” financed by the European Comission.

    Type of contract and applicable legislation:

    The hiring of the Research Manager shall be made by means of an Unfixed Term Employment Contract entered into in accordance with the Portuguese Labour Code approved by the Law no. 7/2009 of February 12th, as amended. The contract should have a forecasted duration of 12 months, renewable and should not be extended further that the funding or project period.

    The present hiring procedure is further governed inter alia by Decree-law no. 57/2016 of July 19th, as amended by the Law no. 57/2017 of August 29th and Regulatory decree no. 11-A/2017 of December 29th.

    Main attributions and activities and exclusivity:

    The Research Manager shall be performing activities in the scope of “101046758 — EcoPlastiC — HORIZON-EIC-2021-PATHFINDEROPEN-01” e “101081776 — AgriLoop — HORIZON-CL6-2022- CIRCBIO-01”.

    The main activity to be performed by the selected candidate consists of supporting the achievement of scientific tasks, as well as contributing to other activities that fall within the general objectives of the project.

    The selected candidate must have a profile that guarantees the monitoring of the financial, administrative and scientific execution of the project, reporting directly to the Responsible Investigator. In particular, the selected person will work directly with the Responsible Investigator, supporting the team in the tasks of:

  • Support the execution of WP4 of EcoPlastiC: Recovery of PHA.
  • Support the execution of WP3 of Agriloop: Microbial fermentations for proteins and PHA production.
  • Administrative and financial monitoring, including the preparation of preliminary and final reports.
  • Monitoring and planning the execution of activities and meeting deadlines (eg, organization of scientific events, project meetings, contacts with partners, submission of Deliverables; support for planning the field work, among others).
  • Coordination and management of work teams, constituted by early stage researchers and master/PhD students;
  • Monitoring and planning and execution of scientific dissemination activities
  • Liaison between the team, the administrative services and the financing entity at all times of the project
  • The Research Manager shall fully devote the whole of his/her professional activity to NOVA.id.FCT, on an exclusive basis.

    Place of work:

    The Research Manager's working place shall be at the premises of the Chemistry Department located in Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa and he/she shall travel, in Portugal or abroad, as required by his/her attributions or as necessary for his/her activity.

    Monthly remuneration:

    The Research Manager's shall earn a monthly remuneration in the gross amount of €3.248,27, pursuant to number 2 of Article 15 of Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of 19 July, as amended by Law no. 57/2017 of 29 August, and Regulatory Decree no. 11-A /2017, of December 29.

    Admission Requirements:

    National, foreign and stateless candidates, holders of the doctor's degree and who have the following specific requirements may be presented to this competition:

  • More than five years' relevant work experience in management of EU projects – managing and coordinating the full lifecycle of research projects and proposals;
  • Relevant work experience in Research and proven interest in the thematic area of the project, with a focus on applied microbiology;
  • Knowledge of the legal framework and administrative procedures in the scope of the European funding for research and innovation;
  • Experience in preparing technical reports, archiving and organizing information
  • Excellent inter-institutional communication skills and communication with European partners;
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language.
  • Applicants with an academic degree or diploma issued by a foreign institution must present proof of recognition of the academic degree in Portugal, under the terms of Decree-Law no. 66/2018. Any candidate without the recognition of the degree (s) can be admitted to the competition, but the jury cannot, during the application evaluation process:

    a) recognize the candidate's degrees and evaluate according to the possession of such degrees;

    b) give equivalence, or consider valid, a note of a grade that is not recognized and registered; c) use the referred note or its conversion as an evaluation parameter.

    In the case of selection, candidates must present the degrees recognized under the terms of Decree Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August, within a maximum period of 30 days from the date of communication of the final results, under penalty of not to contract the position.

    Evaluation of the Applications and Composition of the Jury:

    Applications shall be subject to evaluation by a jury that shall follow the procedure established in articles 13 and 14 (by virtue of article 19) of Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of 19 July, as amended by Law no. 57/2017 of 29 August.

    Pursuant to Article 13 of Decree-Law no. 57/2016 the jury is composed of the following members:

  • Chairwoman: Professora Maria Ascensão Reis;
  • Member: Professora Filomena Freitas;
  • Member: Doutora Nídia Lourenço;
  • Substitute Member: Doutora Joana Fradinho;
  • Substitute Member: Doutora Cristiana Torres.
  • Selection criteria:

    The selection of the successful candidate will be carried out through the evaluation of the scientific and curricular achievements as established by Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of 19 July, as amended by Law no. 57/2017 of 29 August and the selection criteria and their respective weighting shall be as follows:

    Curriculum(50%);

    Experience(50%);

    If needed, an interview will be conducted, in which case the curricular assessments and the interviews will have weights of 50% each.

    c) Experience(50%);

    Final Decision:

    The final deliberation of the jury shall be homologated by the ultimate governing body of NOVA.id.FCT that is also responsible for the decision of hiring.
