    2-year Post-doctoral/Research engineer position available, starting 1st oct. 2022

Targeting gut microbiota for better vaccinal responses

Together with NeoBioSys Company, the Inserm research Unit “Microbes, Intestine, Inflammation and Host Susceptibility” headed by Pr Nicolas Barnich offers a 2-year position for a highly motivated post-doctoral or research engineer candidate. The position is based in Clermont-Ferrand and Issoire (40 km from Clermont-Ferrand) and is funded through “France Relance” plan.

Salary according to applicant's profile and professional experience.

Reimbursement of travel expenses related to company activity.

Application deadline : 1st September 2022 to take up the post on 1st October 2022.

Scientific background and objectives of the project

Gut microbiota has long been recognized as a major player of host immune regulation. Several studies already show that modulation of gut microbiota would be a promising approach to enhance vaccine efficacy, however the mechanisms still need to be defined. Gut microorganisms could act by stimulating innate sensors, modifying antigen-presenting cells, producing immunomodulatory metabolites or cross-reacting with vaccinal antigens (for review, Lynn et al, Nat Rev Immunol 2022 ; Ciabattini et al, Front Microbiol 2019). The objective of the project is to identify microbiota-targeting strategies that will be able to enhance vaccinal responses (immunogenicity, quality, durability, antigenic broadness). Pre-, pro- and postbiotic approaches will be considered and studied in mouse models.

    Scientific environment

The M2iSH lab has long been studying the relationship between intestinal microbiota and the host and has strong expertise in probiotics approaches and infection models in mice. The applicant will benefit from scientific core facilities of Université Clermont Auvergne (https: // partner.uca.fr/english- version) and from various skills and collaborations in M2iSH team.

NeoBioSys is based in Issoire and Clermont-Ferrand since 2009 and is specialized in research, development and optimization of microbiological production processes. NeoBioSys is also positioned as a producer of ferments, food supplements, and micro-organisms for several sectors. Our clients mainly work in two fields of activity: microbiota and vaccines. Regarding that, we are convinced that microbiota-targeting solutions can improve vaccine efficacy. That's why NeoBioSys wishes to commit its expertise in this ambitious and federative research program.

    Applicant profile

The applicant must have a Ph.D. in Immunology or Microbiology and a past experience in immunology and vaccinal responses. The project will require a wide variety of techniques including animal experimentation: skills in mouse vaccinal models would be highly appreciated. Autonomy, excellent communication abilities and team spirit are essential.
