Project/Unit Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute is seeking senior research engineers or scientists with expertise in the areas of communications, networking, and data links. Candidates will support the Sensor and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory's (SEAL) within Command and Control Communication Division (C3D) Architectures (ARCH) Branch in the analysis and technology assessment of C2 platforms and support teams designing, analyzing, and implementing alternative hardware and software technologies to update these platforms. Candidates should have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop creative solutions to complex technical and managerial problems.

Job Purpose

Network engineers lead technical teams through Systems definition and requirements engineering, network design synthesis, and Network analysis and the design, implementation, operation and technical management of Systems projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all technical aspects of product or system design including directing multiple lab resources for large scale product or system deployments.
  • Manage sub-contractor resources supporting all system engineering areas (definition, requirements analysis, synthesis, Network analysis and implementation).
  • Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architectures for Network of high complexity.
  • Define/refine internal and external interfaces.
  • Develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Performed basic and applied research in the areas of networking and communications
  • Experience with Open Mission Systems (OMS)
  • Develop and demonstrate technology and advanced component prototype solutions
  • Evolve and expand on emerging Open Architectures (OA) standards
  • Perform gap analysis to determine deficiencies in current OA standards and technologies
  • Experience in designing switching, routing protocols, Mesh, Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), and Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET)
  • Knowledgeable in Network Engineering and support of routers, switches, network security devices, and network management systems
  • Well versed in network monitoring, diagnostic, protocol analyzers, sniffers and analytic tool
  • Proficient in protocols (i.e. COFDM, DMVPN, IPSEC, BGP, MPLS, VRF, QoS, OSPF, 802.11, QoS, ACL's, DHCP, TCP/IP, DNS), SVR, Etc.
  • Proficient in Open Standards (i.e. UCI, DDS, ISO, OMS, OCS, MORA, SOSA, SCA, UCS, STANAG, FACE, HOST, COARPS, CMOSS, OSSA, etc.
  • Understanding of NISPOM/Risk Management Framework (RMF) and Defense Security Services (DSS) security requirements
  • Work on the development of new business areas
  • Communicate with sponsors on C3D efforts
  • Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Applicants must have at least five (5) years of demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: designing network switching, routing protocols, Mesh, Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), and Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET)
  • Applicants must have a Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and a minimum of three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree. (Applicants with work experience and pursuing a Master's degree will be considered).
  • Applicants are required to possess both good written and oral skills in order to document and convey one's research to both internal personnel and external customers on a regular basis.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Active Top Secret Clearance
  • MS or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant full- time experience after completion of that degree.

  • 9 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, RF Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Information Technology or related field.
  • 7 years of related experience with a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, RF Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 4 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, RF Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Information Technology, or related field.
  • U.S. Citizenship Requirements

    Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.

    Clearance Type Required

    Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
