The Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools (NYU Metro Center) at New York University seeks a qualified candidate for the role of National Campaign Researcher working with the Education Justice Research and Organizing Collaborative (EJ-ROC). EJ-ROC brings together researchers, data and policy analysts, and community organizers to provide critical research, data, policy and strategic support to the education justice movement. EJ-ROC builds on the long tradition of movement-driven, community-derived research in our two main areas of work: on- demand, rapid-response research and data analysis; and strategic assistance to education organizing groups to employ campaign strategies, leadership development, coalition-building and communication plans that help win equitable education policies. EJ-ROC employs these strategies with an explicit racial justice lens to maximize the synergy between research and community organizing, magnify the voices and power of grassroots communities of color, and advance the capacity of organizing efforts to make demands, design solutions, ensure quality implementation, and sustain policy wins.

About the Position: The National Campaign Researcher will conduct research and policy analysis, write reports, and create tools and resources to support grassroots community organizations that are organizing for racial equity in regions facing attacks on critical race theory and education equity in their schools. There will be opportunities to collaborate with New York City-based community organizing groups as well, especially around culturally responsive-sustaining curriculum and pedagogy.

Duties: Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ● Qualitative and quantitative research to support education justice organizing campaigns. ● Design, research and write policy reports as requested by community organizing groups, for public release as part of campaigns. ● Rapid analysis of education policy and data to support organizing campaigns in real time. ● Development of tools, fact sheets, webinars, infographics and other formats for presenting information in engaging and accessible ways to multiple audiences. ● Designing and leading trainings for parents, youth, community groups and educators on education policy topics.

The successful candidate should have: ● Excellent writing, research, and communications skills ● Quantitative and qualitative research experience ● Proficiency with presentation technologies and software for creating data visualizations ● Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and to meet timelines independently and effectively ● Experience with critical consciousness and critical analysis; anti-racist and anti-oppressive methodologies; popular education and humanizing education ● Demonstrated commitment to justice and liberation for historically marginalized people ● Cultural competency that includes race, understanding of trans experiences, gender, ability, language, immigration, socioeconomics ● Experience with community organizing and advocacy is a plus ● Multilingualism is a plus, especially in Spanish

Salary: $65,000-$75,000 commensurate with experience.

The position is full-time in New York City. Some remote work is possible.
