  • Engineered nanoparticles and colloids are frequently found in groundwater systems, both as natural and anthropogenic micro- and nanoparticles. Their impact on groundwater resources is twofold: on the one hand, engineered nanoparticles, synthesized for different industrial applications, may be unintentional released in the environment, thus reaching the subsurface and representing a potential hazard for human health; on the other hand, engineered nanoparticles have also been studied in recent years for waste water and in-situ groundwater remediation. In this framework, the research program focus on the mechanisms controlling the transport of nanoparticles in groundwater and their interaction with contaminants and environmental matrices.
