Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field required. Master's degree is preferred.

  • Position Summary

    The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act or NAGPRA is a United States federal law enacted in 1990 with the purpose of preserving and protecting Native American cultural heritage. NAGPRA stipulates that federal agencies, museums, and institutions that receive federal funding have to inventory and identify Native American human remains, funerary objects, sacred objects, and cultural patrimony in their possession. As a recipient of federal funding, UGA will implement an effective NAGPRA program university-wide. This position manages administrative aspects of the university's new NAGPRA program. Working closely with the chair and key committee members, the NAGPRA Compliance Professional will manage the NAGPRA committee, contribute to ensuring institutional compliance with NAGPRA and the UGA NAGPRA policy, assist with logistical aspects related to NAGPRA consultation, and general NAGPRA administration tasks.

    Committee and Communication Support

  • Maintain a strong service focus by developing productive working relationships and regular communication with university leadership, key personnel, and the NAGPRA committee.
  • Coordinate all activities of the NAGPRA committee, including working with the chair to establish agendas, scheduling meetings, communicating with committee members, and taking and preparing minutes for distribution.
  • Assist with the development, periodic review, and maintenance of program SOPs and policies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate in clear, professional, and sensitive manner; and work respectfully
  • Prepares and/or distributes written internal or external correspondence or other written materials as requested this includes, but not limited to copy editing, mailings to tribes, information packets, reports, grant applications.
  • Monitors all correspondence sent to NAGPRA office and directs to appropriate individuals
  • Create monthly update reports for tribes and for internal use
  • Other duties as directed
  • Percentage of time 50 Duties/Responsibilities

    General Administrative support

  • Assist with day-to-day NAGPRA operations, filing documents, general archival processing of records, etc
  • Submits supply orders and tracks all procurement requests through UGAmart as well as determining general office equipment and supply needs and ordering as necessary
  • Receives, maintains, and distributes supplies related to NAGPRA
  • Tracks routine financial information, invoicing, etc
  • Assists with grant applications, or grant reporting as necessary ·
  • Arranges travel and lodging for tribal consultation visits and other related events including scheduling, space, and itineraries for visits for other NAGPRA supported activities
  • Administering travel and other university business forms; assisting with travel arrangements and completion of expense reimbursement requests
  • Coordinate meetings (virtual or in-person) as requested to ensure coordinated efforts between all university units, university leadership, key personnel, and NAGPRA committee as needed
  • Performs other clerical duties as needed, such as filing, data entry, photocopying, and scanning · Other duties as directed

    Website and other Marketing Support

  • Works with appropriate individuals to create/update/revise NAGPRA website/page the NAGPRA website to better communicate the program and the university's mission, requiring substantive knowledge of organizational goals and objectives.
  • Working with program leadership and Research Communications, coordinate press releases and other social media to ensure cohesive messaging
  • Other duties as directed
