  • Selective procedure for the calling of a Senior Research fellow, according to art. 24, paragraph 3, letter b), of the Law nr. 240/2010, for the Academic Recruiting Discipline 09/E1 - Electrical Engineering Academic Discipline ING- IND/31 – Electrical engineering, at Department of Information Engineering. Maximum number of scientific papers to be submitted: 16 (sixteen). Title of the research programme: Development of dielectric metamaterials for industrial applications The researcher activity will be focused on the development of artificial materials (“metamaterials”) characterized by peculiar electromagnetic properties which are impossible to find in nature.Indeed, macroscopic properties of metamaterials depend not only on their molecular structure but also on the geometry of the devices, which can be properly engineered in order to realize innovative components characterized by superior performance with respect to what is commonly reported in the state-of-the-art. The most interesting geometries for this research will be “metasurfaces”, i.e., bidimensional periodic structures which allow an accurate control of propagation of the electromagnetic waves in space, and photonic crystal devices, which are fundamental building blocks for the realization of high- frequency circuits operating at the micro- and nano-scale. The final goal of the activity will be the realization of a novel generation of integrated components (in particular electromagnetic sources, waveguides, and sensors) based on dielectric metamaterials that can be potentially employed in a plethora of possible applications, e.g., in industrial imaging systems, in future quantum communication networks, and in integrated particle accelerators.In this framework, in a first phase activities will be focused on implementation and validation of analytical, numerical and circuit models to be used for analysis and synthesis of dielectric metamaterials, whereas in a second step the developed tools will be applied to design structures that will be manufactured and characterized by exploiting well-established collaborations with national and international research groups.The researcher will also have to establish his own network of scientific collaborations at the national and the international level, by contributing to the preparation of research proposals for competitive calls funded by the Italian Ministry for Research, the European Union, or other institution.The Department of Information Engineering (DII) will be the main place of work of the researcher; thus, all the activities will be carried out in a synergic way with respect to the goals of the department itself. Moreover, the research will be coherent with the Strategic Plan of the university, which puts emphasis on the complete sustainability of technological and scientific progress.
