The Museum Security Officer has general responsibility for public safety, property protection, and is responsible for maintaining order and secure conditions within the Museum and on the Museum grounds.

  • Officers perform a variety of duties, following policies and procedures involving the protection of cultural properties
  • Under the care of the Museum of Art at Bowdoin College, duties Include supervising visitors
  • Responding to emergency situations
  • Observing for fire, theft, vandalism, and other threats
  • Hourly rate for this position is $17.50/ per hour
  • Education/Skills Requirements

    Required:

  • A high School diploma or equivalent
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a calm manner when stressful circumstances occur.
  • Must we able to work with a wide variety of people in varying situations
  • Ability to complete detailed written incident reports, logs, forms, and written communications concerning work related activities
  • Preferred:

  • Successful completion of some college work
  • Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

    Preferred:

  • CPR and AED certified or willing to obtain certification upon hire
  • Previous experience working in a customer facing role
  • Standard Work Days and Hours

  • Casual Museum Security Officers are scheduled to work between 12 – 19 hours/per week.
  • Fall Museum Hours are between 7:00am – 7:00pm with later evening hours scheduled for events and late openings.
  • Due to the nature of security work, there is no set time, and officers can expect to work varying shifts seven days/per week.
  • This position requires working every other weekend.
