Mission for Life Program Coordinator/Assistant Residence Director

The Mission for Life Program Coordinator supports the implementation of the Student Development Strategic Plan “Made for Encounter” as guided by their direct supervisor. The Mission for Life program brings into coordination the various opportunities and initiatives for service and outreach university wide, and helps students see themselves as formed for distinction, leading through service, and integrated by relationships.

The Mission for Life Program Coordinator coordinates major University events, tracks completed service, and collaborates with on and off campus partners regarding service opportunities and serves as the secretary of the Catholic Social Teaching, Diversity, and Inclusion Task Force. In addition, the Mission for Life Coordinator is expected to live on campus and serve in a dual role as an Assistant Residence Director.

Candidates will be invited to demonstrate a willingness to support the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinates events such as Day of Service, Life & Dignity Week, the Service Partnership Breakfast, and Alternative Spring Break.
  • Assists the Residence Director of the assigned hall with identifying, coordinating, and assessing residence programming to meet the developmental and formative needs of residents.
  • Communicates effectively with campus partners to receive information regarding the service completed
  • Collaborates with campus partners and student organizations to develop service opportunities and long-term partnerships with local non-profits.
  • Serves as Secretary for the University's Task Force for Catholic Social Teaching, Diversity, and Inclusion, ensuring the Task Force accomplishes its goals.
  • Attends meetings with supervisors and team members (e.g. RAs, Student Life team) and takes appropriate direction to implement programs, policies, and procedures as requested.
  • Collaborates with Residence Life to organize volunteers for Move-In Day, and coordinates other university-wide service opportunities as they arise.

    • Desired Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Experience include:

  • Required: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Preferred: A bachelor's degree with a strong background in marketing, communications, service-learning, and Catholic Social Teaching. A master's degree in social work, project management, education, or a field providing a background in service-learning or Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Experience planning and coordinating service projects and/or mission trips, familiarity with the Benedictine tradition of service, and residence life experience as a resident assistant is preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of the formative process of young adults according to Christian and Catholic teaching and tradition
  • Ability to teach, instruct, mentor, and lead
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and relate effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, lead group discussions, and facilitate group decision-making
  • Upholds and supports the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary
  • Supports the ongoing implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae , the apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities
  • Builds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality in the Office of Student Development and throughout the university, in accord with Saint Benedict's admonition that all be received as Christ

    • Position responsibilities require the appointee to live in a small apartment located within one of the residential facilities on campus. In addition, the University provides the Mission for Life Coordinator and his/her spouse and minor children with a meal plan for when dining service is in operation with the expectation the Mission for Life Coordinator will frequently eat meals among students in the Crow's Nest Campus Restaurant and/or Marauders Cove.

    The position requires a work schedule that varies from day to day based on the needs of residents and the Mission for Life office. It includes substantial evening and weekend hours.
