Within the Department of Medical Neuroscience, we're dedicated to our mission of supporting molecular and cellular neuroscientific research, with an emphasis on projects that aim to identify, treat and cure diseases of the nervous system.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Medical Neuroscience Research Technician will join a multi-institutional team studying cholinesterase activity in neurodegenerative diseases. The Medical Neuroscience Research Technician will work with live research animals as well as post-mortem tissue to assist in the evaluation of butyrylcholinesterase ligands for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.

Key Responsibilities

Perform technical duties related to the evaluation of butyrylcholinesterase radioligands for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease including: - Maintain mouse colony (DNA collection, genotyping, mouse health monitoring). - Brain tissue collection from experimental mice. - Human and mouse tissue histology (tissue sectioning, staining, immunohistochemistry). - Assist with radioligand evaluation procedures (in vitro binding, in vitro distribution, in vitro autoradiography, ex vivo autoradiography). - Other related duties, as assigned.


Occasional evening work will be required to meet operational requirements.


Undergraduate degree in Science or Lab Technology degree in a health or science-related field. Prior completion of biosafety and radiation safety training as well as related experience involving mouse handling techniques, animal surgical procedures and PCR preferred. Must be an effective team player with strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail, as well as excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong problem recognition and solving skills are required.
