The Central Michigan University College of Medicine (CMED), Mt. Pleasant
campus is currently seeking a dedicated half-time faculty member for the
Essentials of Clinical Skills (ECS) course to teach and assess interviewing
and physical exam skills to 1st and 2nd year medical students in a structured
setting using standardized patients (SP). The position will work in
conjunction and under the direction of the course director for ECS. Position
is benefit-eligible and start date is negotiable.
The ECS course is an integrated clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic skill
development course and runs longitudinally for the first two years. Emphasis
is placed on history- taking, physical examination, and diagnostic skills
presented by body system. The course utilizes CMED's SP and simulation center
in Mt. Pleasant. Standardized patient simulation involves the use of
individuals trained to portray patients which allows students to practice and
enhance their communication skills, physical exam, and history taking
The center includes 12 Exam Rooms for SP sessions, each room is equipped with
Bline web-based technology, which allows for the recording of the SP
encounters. This system allows faculty, staff, SP, and students the
opportunity to view live or recorded sessions for feedback and assessment.
MD, DO, PA or NP licensed or license eligible in Michigan
Board Certified or Board Eligible as applicable to credentials
At least 5 years of clinical experience
Dedicated to delivery of patient-centered medicine and the college's mission
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated excellence in patient satisfaction and clinical best practices
Ability to collegially engage and work with faculty, staff, students and
Availability Wednesday and Thursdays (main course days), other weekdays as
Use of computer technology like Microsoft windows, some experience working in
a remote or virtual environment
Teaching experience in an academic environment at the undergraduate medical
student level or other health professional student level

About the Department
The CMU College of Medicine welcomed its inaugural class in the summer of
2013. The innovative medical school curriculum is designed to prepare students
for practice in mid- to northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, with
particular attention to primary care needs in the region. The program is
