Gene ral Description of the Job Class
The Medical Assistant,Certified functions as an integral member of the virtu al clinic interdisciplinaryhealthcare team in coordinating telehealth vi sits between patients andclinicians. . The Medical Assistant, Certified performs routine administrativeand patient care supportive duties in a H ealth System medical practice thatassist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment ofpatients and ensures the virtual clinicrunssmoothly.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Clinicalresponsibilities: The CMA facilitates tel ehealth visits by takeing medicalhistories and recording other patient i nformation like vital signs, explainstreatment procedures to patients, a nd prepares patients for telehealthappointments.
Patient care supportresponsibilities may include:
Collecting relevant patientinformation in preparation f or the virtual clinic telehealth visit.
Ass isting the medicaland nursing staff during the visit and after the visit in coordinating aspectsof the patient's follow up care. < /span>
Promoting patient/familyunderstanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan ofcare, and doc umenting in the patient record.
Other clinical supportresponsibilities .
Performs other clinicalfunctions as delegated and supervised by the physician.< /p>
Administrativeresponsibilities: The CMA gre ets patients, answers telephones, schedulesappointments to include arriv e appointments in MaestroCare, checkout patients,and referral scheduling ; arranges for hospital admissions and laboratoryservices, updates and f iles patient medical records, fills out insurance forms,handles billing,bookkeeping to include receiving copays and collections onaccount balan ces; correspondence, and ordering clinical and clerical suppliesand form s. Performs other administrative duties as directed.
May be requested to be aliaison for clinic activities such as Joi nt Commission and falls and/orparticipate in clinic committees. p>
Required Qualifica tions at this Level
Education:
Level I -- Graduation from acc redited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
Level II -- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditati on of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bure au of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
Level III -- Graduatio nfrom a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accr editation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediti ng Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
Experience:
Level I -- No experience required.
Level II -- Must have at least 1 year of clinical exper ience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
Level III -- Must have at least 3 years of clinical experience as a Me dical Assistant in a clinical setting.
Note: 1 year of experience will be provided for an Associate degree in Medical Assi sting.
General Ladder Statement: In addition to th e education and experience noted, applicants must meet all requirements set forth in the Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA/RMA) Ladder Program document for Levels II and III.
Degrees, Licensur e, and/or Certification:
Level I -- C ertification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. BLS require d.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Good customer service skills.
Work requires the ability to understand and followoral and written instructions generally acquired through a high school education and med ical assistant programming.
Heavy lifting and the a bility to transport stretcher and wheelchair patients may be required.< /span>
Working knowledge of sterile techniques and specia l procedures that are applicable to work performed.
Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administeri ng routine and special treatments to patients.
Wor king knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene and basic health and saf ety precautions applicable for work in a clinic setting. Working knowle dge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.
Age specific competencies.
Daily clinic p reparation process; registration, scheduling, charge posting, order ent ry. Able to document and communicate pertinent information
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationsh ips with patients and clinic staff
