The Media Specialist is responsible in aiding faculty, staff, and students in the use of digital and multimedia equipment, providing Audio/Visual technology support for campus events, and coordinating the Academic Media Center (AMC) administrative needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Develops and delivers workshops and training for the use of media equipment, presentation software, and computer use for the university community.
  • Develops and conducts education sessions that support the new multimedia skill development of students, curriculum, and career opportunities.
  • Manages the client support of the AMC to include coordination of daily tasks and functions such as but does not limit to client requests, creative projects, and special events.
  • Manages and maintains audiovisual and other media equipment inventory using our system checkout platform; Schedules and deploys assistance of set-up for audiovisual utilizing our student assistant team; Oversees the software updates and usage of the AMC digital lab.
  • Utilizes and manages equipment for instruction and special events; evaluates audiovisual media hardware and software
  • Oversees the printer production services, i.e., large format printing and lamination services.
  • Assists faculty, students, and staff in production of digital media content and material along with video, audio, graphic design, and digital presentation creation.
  • Hires, guides and supervises team of media student assistants to support AMC events and services; Creates and fosters collaboration efforts with other student staff members housed within the library by working and communicating with their direct supervisors.
  • Prepares departmental activity data reports for the Director and Executive Director.
  • Coordinates billing and processing of charges related to the AMC services.
  • Maintains policies and procedures relating to equipment use, software distribution, and creative media spaces.
  • Manage student assistant's team projects and timelines as required for departmental functions

  • QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree, or a combination of requisite experience and educational accomplishments may be substituted for the degree requirement. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Must have 1-3 years of work experience in technical support, audio/visual set up support, or related experience; 3-5 years of experience working in AV technology fields is preferred. Supervisory experience and knowledge of the media production and development process preferred.
  • Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office/Office 365 (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and experience with virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and Teams Meetings.
  • Must have the ability to use various software applications, such as spreadsheets and an assortment of databases to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports. Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and other new software and media platforms related to video, audio, graphic design, digital presentations, and media production.
  • Must be able to work with both PC and MAC operating systems.
  • Must keep up to date with new digital media, instructional and presentational technologies, computer technology, and other job-related skills.
  • Must have proficiency in English and spelling, accurate typing with word processor, ability to operate computer hardware and software.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; an ability to work effectively with communities across the university. Must be comfortable speaking in front of a group to provide training and workshops.
  • Must have high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality; ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; displays solid problem solving and interpersonal skills; works well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have strong self-judgment abilities to assist in the preparation of department personnel policy information. Use discretion to complete work assignments. Initiative is frequently required to complete work assignments.
  • Must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek to accommodate university events and projects.
  • Experience in computer troubleshooting including analog and digital audio, video, and projection equipment setup for conferences, presentations, broadcast, and unique events is preferred.
  • Bilingual Preferred (English/Spanish with the ability to understand and to make one's self understood to Spanish speaking individuals)
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business.
  • While performing this role, the employee will be regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
