The Process Engineering for Sustainable Systems (ProcESS) is a vibrant research group dedicated to contribute to sustainable chemical processing by developing intensified and integrated flow sheets using continuous reactors and separators with alternative energy forms. ProcESS is world-known reference group on process intensification in the chemical industry. As a PhD student you will join a group of ca. 50 PhD students, many of them working on topics which are related to your research (carbonation, crystallisation, mechanical activation, slag recycling, etc).

ProjectThe PhD position is part of a bigger effort on negative CO2 emission technologies for the removal of CO2 from the atmosphere and subsequent long- term sequestration. You will focus on the activation of waste materials (metallurgical slag, C&D waste) for CO2 adsorption by novel techniques including mechanical, chemical and mechanochemical activation approaches. Other research groups in the consortium will investigate the agricultural application of our carbonated products and the life-cycle assessment of the overall process. There is also interaction with industrial and agricultural actors within the project.
