European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.

For our Detector group we are looking for an

Mechanics Engineer (F/M/D) The position
  • Participate to the Detector Group program by taking a leading role on topics related to detector assembly, integration, calibration and testing
  • Take a leading role in the design, production, assembly, test and commissioning of new mechanics and cooling systems for new detectors to be operated at the EuXFEL
  • Take a leading role in the design, production, assembly, test and commissioning of test stands for the detectors of the EuXFEL
  • Act as an interface between the Detector group and other internal and external groups on topics related to detector integration
  • Participate to planning, setup and performance of dedicated experiments aimed to verify detector performances or testing of new prototypes
  • Support the Detector Group on its daily business during facility operation
  • Requirements
  • Master in industrial engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Hands-on mentality in bringing a system from design to operation in the laboratory
  • Ability to work with 3D CAD software tools (e.g. NX) to create 3D assemblies and 2D drawings
  • Experience of work with vacuum setups and in clean room conditions is an asset
  • Previous experience on detector assembly, integration, testing and commissioning is an asset
  • Experience with FEM analysis (mechanical, steady-state thermal or CFD) is an asset
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a multi-lingual, multi- disciplinary team with English as working language, as well as good knowledge of the German language for communication with external company and providers
