  • The project aims to investigate the interaction of metal additive manufacturing technology and mechanical performance of lightweight structural components for the automotive and aerospace sectors. After the state of the art on the topic, we consider: i) production of metal alloys with PBF (Powder Bed Fusion) technology, ii) determination of fatigue performance of metal alloys as a function of technological factors such as process parameters, internal defects, surface quality, part orientation, geometrical features, iii) optimized postprocessing to achieve high performance and reliability of components subjected to fatigue. Special attention will be devoted to innovation of the material test methods to fully exploit their potential in applications. Interaction with established AM producers and with engineers of the relevant industrial sectors will result in an objective assessment of the research impact on sustainable mobility.
