Position Title: Mathematics Instructor Position is: Regular full-time Position Type: Faculty Position (Full Time/Part Time) Department/Ofc.: Math, Science, and Engineering Technologies Position Description:

Position Summary: This position is a full-time faculty position that includes instruction, office hours and professional contributions to the college community to create and innovative and engaging learning environment starting in the fall semester 2022.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Using each course outline, facilitate student learning, provide effective instruction in both on-campus and online modalities, and perform evaluations of student learning for the following courses: Developmental Mathematics, Statistics, Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Calculus sequence. • Teach a diverse student body in daytime, evening, and Saturday classes on the main campus, at extension centers and business and industry sites as needed. • Participate actively in curriculum planning and development, assessment, syllabus writing, development of examinations, development of open education resources “OER” (free textbooks) and selection of learning materials. • Teach various modalities including hybrid, virtual, and online classes. • Teach courses using a graphic calculator, currently the TI-83 and TI-84. • Participate in department and general faculty meetings, and in the applicable College committee activities. • Participate in department and program level learning assessment. Participation includes helping articulate learning outcomes, choosing and administering measures, collecting and submitting relevant data, evaluating student performance, and suggesting changes to improve student learning. • Participate actively in in curriculum planning, syllabus writing, examination development, textbook selection, program evaluation/revision, and assessment. • Maintain an active program of personal professional development related to the position responsibilities. • Regular attendance on campus is required for this position. • Mentor part-time and adjunct faculty teaching courses within the Department. • Participate in department, division, and general faculty meetings, applicable college committee activities, and other forms of College service. • Participate in college professional development activities. • Other duties as assigned.

Hours/Schedule: Hours vary based on class schedules.

Professional Instructors shall be responsible for a total of 450 contact hours per academic year. Each instructor is expected to be on campus at least four (4) days per week. If more than 25% of an Instructor's base load contact hours are taught online, the Instructor is expected to be on campus for a minimum of three (3) days per week.

All professional instructors have a year-round professional responsibility to the College. The professional instructor's base load responsibilities shall consist of (1) teaching/teaching preparation; (2) development and review (including curriculum, teaching methods, learning technologies); (3) department and institutional work (such as student outcomes assessment, curricular improvement), (4) student recruitment and student guidance, and (5) professional development.

Professional faculty positions are 40 hour per week positions that consist of the following: Base Load Assignment for Full Time Professional Faculty • Professional instructors will hold a minimum of five (5) office hours per week • Professional instructors shall be available for five (5) hours per week for meetings • Professional instructors shall be accountable for fifteen (15) preparation hours per week • Professional instructor shall be accountable for fifteen (15) hours of classroom instruction per week • Professional Faculty – 40-hour work week

Commitment to Professional Responsibilities: Faculty must make the work at WCC the primary work in their lives. Faculty must work well and hard to meet the goals of the College. Being a professional faculty member at Washtenaw Community College is a year-round responsibility which includes curriculum development, professional improvement and development, and other professional responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Earned Master's Degree or higher in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a related Master's Degree with 18+ graduate level credits in Mathematics. • Equivalent of two years teaching experience at the post-secondary level. • Successful experience in teaching mathematics below the calculus level. • Online and virtual teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional Preferred Qualifications: • Successful experience in teaching Quantitative Reasoning math pathways courses. • Successful experience teaching all community college level mathematics. • Online teaching certification.
