  • In recent years a vibrant line of research has developed that investigates the weak field limit of gravity-coupled field theories. Examples of phenomena considered are gravitational decoherence, i.e. the loss of coherence of a quantum state in a superposition due to the noise produced by space-time fluctuations; the collapse of the quantum wave function due to gravity, as suggested by R. Penrose; recent proposals to test the quantum nature of gravity with interferometric experiments. The research grant aims to analyse and refine some of these models, and to evaluate their experimental verifiability, with current or near-future technologies. The candidate will be required to have skills in the field of quantum mechanics, models of spontaneous collapse of the wave function, gravity and cosmology.
