A Master's thesis position in engineering of structured magnetic surfaces
is available in the Active Matter group, Department of Applied Physics
(School of Science) at Aalto University.
Your role and goals
We are looking for a student to do his/her Master of Science (M.Sc.) thesis
with us on engineering of structured magnetic surfaces. You will be
developing microfabrication processes for producing ordered and/or disordered
spiky surface which in turn will yield a spatially undulating magnetic field.
You should have firm interest and understanding of material science,
microfabrication, micro/nanoscale phenomena, and process development.
Your work will be a part of a bigger project funded by PREIN
(https: // prein.fi/) and you will contribute towards a functioning surface on
which we aim to manipulate microscopic particles in a controlled manner. Your
contributions will be outlined in your thesis and in the possible scientific
publication. We expect hard-working attitude and willingness to grow as an
engineer/physicist during the project.
Your experience and ambitions
We offer a high-tech working environment, with challenging and interesting
topics related to active matter, micro and nanoengineering, advanced
materials, self-assembly, electromagnetic tweezers. In return, we would like
the student to have:
Experimental know-how in material engineering or applied physics
Excellent study record
Good English & team working skills
