An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced mass spectrometrist within the Faculty of Biological Sciences and the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology. The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the mass spectrometry research service and facility equipment, and will be expected to provide expert advice and handle sample analyses for a wide range of users. The post presents opportunities for the development of analytical methods in support of biomolecular identification and structural elucidation across the range of research supported by the facility, including intact and native mass spectrometry, structural characterisation of proteins and complexes (e.g. using hydrogen-deuterium exchange and chemical crosslinking), protein identification and PTM mapping, metabolomics and quantitative proteomics.
Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent experience in chemistry, biochemistry or analytical science, together with considerable practice in mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry for the identification and structural elucidation of biomolecules. Good communications skills and the ability to correspond and communicate with a wide range of people is essential.
