  • About the Role

    The Manager, Research Proposals leads a team that provides guidance, advice and support to researchers with end-to-end pre-award development and management activities and contributes to those activities. This includes identifying and communicating funding opportunities, providing accurate advice and interpretation of grant guidelines, coordinating expression of interest processes, providing development feedback to applicants, reviewing eligibility and compliance, coordinating institutional endorsements, and overseeing application submission. The Manager, Research Proposals works closely with School/College research leaders and other R&I teams in the development and implementation of targeted strategies and initiatives which support improvements in research proposal application quality and quantity.

    To be successful in this position, you'll have:

  • Proven experience in leading and managing the development of research grant applications and proposals, including a sound understanding of national and international research grant schemes and how to attract research funding through these funding agencies.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing high-performing customer- focused teams to deliver to a range of clients with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively and sensitively with staff across the University.

  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing strategies to build and improve grant writing capability, including designing and delivering appropriate professional development programs.

  • Demonstrated experience in planning, scheduling and managing complex activities.

  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple levels and functions and with external parties.

  • Proven ability to work independently, as a member of a team and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to help achieve the strategic objectives of all Colleges and promote the values of RMIT.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with an ability to understand issues at both a strategic level and at a detailed operational level.

  • Proven experience in planning, leading and driving change with accountability for delivering on organisational objectives, developing creative solutions and practical implementation strategies, in a challenging and dynamic environment.

  • Qualifications: A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent combination of qualifications and relevant work experience. A doctoral degree would be highly regarded.

  • Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.
