Job Description Summary
The Budget Office and the Information Technology department are looking for a 12- month, full-time Manager of Budget & Planning. The Manager would be responsible for overseeing the Michigan Technological University Department of Information Technology finances as well as assisting the Director of Budget and Financial Planning in financial analysis of other University operations and assigned projects. The position will have dual reporting with the Director of Budget and Financial Planning and the Chief Information Officer.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
1. Serve as a financial expert and provide counsel to the Chief Information Officer on budget and cost information to inform effective decision-making and to allow regular reporting to Information Technology leadership. 2. Perform complex budget projections, analysis of actual activity, and cost feasibility studies to facilitate decision making and planning as needed by the Director of Budget and Financial Planning. 3. Conduct periodic reviews of cost-effective purchasing and capital expenditures. 4. Identify and plan short- and long-range financial goals for the Information Technology department and other University operations. 5. Utilize Banner and WebFOCUS to access information regarding student employment, finance, and human resources information. 6. Monitor and collaborate with Information Technology including day-to-day, monthly, and year end operations. 7. Plan, develop, manage, and track all Information Technology program budgets. 8. Ensure all revenue, deposit, and expense transactions are coded according to Information Technology & University policy. 9. Analyze and prepare budget reports, statements, and spreadsheets for internal and external use, and provide regular report-outs to the IT leadership team. 10. Work with Budget Director and Chief Information Officer in budget forecasting and the creation of fiscal controls and records. 11. Prepare and submit annual reports including Educause Core Data Survey, Campus Computing Survey, and other compliance related documents. 12. Build and foster successful working relationships with other areas such as Purchasing, Financial Services and Operations, Human Resources, Advancement, and Financial Aid. 13. Apply safety related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work. 14. Provide leadership to foster a culture of safety. 15. Participate in University committees, as appropriate. 16. Supervisory Responsibilities: Functional supervision may be exercised over clerical support staff, graduate students, and student assistants.
