Job Description Summary:

The Division of Safety and Facilities aims to provide a safe and secure campus for all members of the university community, our guests, and the public through best-in-class technological and physical infrastructure, proactive assessment and analysis, and a caring team of professionals dedicated to upholding the University's values with the highest degree of conscientiousness.

Reporting to the Director of Emergency Management, the EMeRG Manager position is responsible for leading the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program, through management and oversight of a team. The core responsibilities of this role are to be responsible for strategic oversight of vital, non-law enforcement functions of the university police department, to manage a team responsible for EMS, community monitoring, focus on process improvement, strategic initiatives and revenue generation where applicable. This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff directly, makes hiring decisions, provides coaching, training and mentoring, manages performance and determines future staffing needs.

The Manager, EMeRG will:

  • Partner with the EMeRG Medical Director to develop and oversee DC-approved clinical operating guidelines
  • Coordinate yearly recertification of national and district EMS licenses through an agency-specific continuing medical education program.
  • Establish and execute a strategic plan for functions overseen, and responsible for focusing on process improvement and strategic initiatives
  • Serve as a liaison with University, District, and federal partners in the event of an expanding incident in the National Capital Region
  • Lead and manage a leadership team comprised of agency members
  • Use a highly collaborative approach with a wide variety of internal and external partners, and successfully perform in a cross-functional teamwork environment (GW Police Department, Division of Student Affairs, GW Fleet Services, DC Fire and EMS, DC Department of Health, GW Hospital, GW Medical Faculty Associates
  • Remain up-to-date with related training, seminars, and events; is responsible for keeping current on changes to relevant law and policy that may impact the functions of this position.
  • Support the Office of Emergency Management assisting with the development of Emergency Operations and Continuity of Operations plans.
  • Coordinate with University leaders and local partners in supporting large- scale incidents or Special Events as requested.
  • Develop Incident Action Plans when supporting Special Events that are consistent with the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
  • Develop an annual report providing details on the total number of responses, transports, special events, training hours and CQI inquiries for the previous year.
  • The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of training and experience, plus 4 years of relevant experience. Current certification as an EMS provider. A valid driver's license and to be eligible to drive GW vehicles as per university policy.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 years of relevant experience, to include supervisory and/or management experience.
  • Experience managing student employees, volunteers, and student organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability leading programs, initiatives and organizations; demonstrated ability crafting and implementing strategic plans.
  • Proficiency and demonstrated experience using various computer programs (patient care reporting software, Microsoft Office Suite, web-based scheduling software).
  • Able to independently track data, generate reports, and communicate effectively in oral and written communications.
  • Current certification as an EMS provider (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and/or District of Columbia Department of Health).
  • Instructor certifications in relevant topics, including but not limited to: Association of Public Communications Officials (APCO), American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI), Incident Command System (ICS) / National Incident Management System (NIMS), Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC).
