An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Finance Department of a large teaching hospital. The Trust has a budget in excess of £1b and Management Accounting is at the forefront of financial management.

We are looking for an energetic, hardworking and enthusiastic new person to work in our Trust Headquarters Finance Team providing high quality financial management support and advice. The post is accountable to the Senior Management Accountant and the candidate should be part qualified in a recognised CCAB qualification or AAT finalist.

The successful applicant will be involved in the monthly management accounting process, preparing reports for budget managers, analysing variances and meeting with budget managers to discuss financial performance. With opportunities to contribute to budget setting, forecasting and service change proposals this is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to develop their financial management skills in a diverse, dynamic environment.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    Your Responsibilities

    What you'll do

  • Assist the THQ Finance Team with the financial evaluation of directorates' annual business plans to ensure consistency with corporate objectives.
  • Assist the THQ Finance Team with costing approved annual business plans into detailed annual budgets.
  • Assist the THQ Finance Team in the production of regular monthly management reports and budget statements, detailing actual performance against plan, analysing, interpreting, and reporting any variances and proactively working to resolve any issues that need further investigation within agreed policies and procedures.
  • Assist the THQ Finance Team with the preparation of financial forecasts.
  • Assist the THQ Finance Team in identifying areas for cost savings.
  • Assist the THQ Finance Team with evaluating the cost-of-service developments for inclusion in the Delivery plan, business cases, waiting list initiatives etc that includes designing and formatting of financial spreadsheets.
  • Respond to general queries from budget managers relating to costing, invoicing, payments, payroll, coding etc.
  • What we're looking for

    We are looking for someone with knowledge of management accounting preferably with experience of the NHS financial environment. You will be an excellent communicator and can analyse and assess financial information for reporting and decision making. You will be able to work to tight deadlines, cope with extended periods of concentration, and multi-tasking such as undertaking calculations whilst responding to telephone or TEAMS queries and able to operate effectively in a flexible and demanding environment. You will hold or be working towards a Professional Accountancy Qualification, post graduate diploma in finance or equivalent experience.
