Job Description:
Position Available: Maintenance Assistant, SG-09, Line 05781
Location: SUNY College at Old Westbury - Facilities/Maintenance
Salary: $40,193.00 - $49,405.00 plus $3,087.00 location pay
Shift: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM. Different hours may be required from time to time to meet the operating needs of the College.
Status: Permanent, Full-time

Duties:
According to Civil Service Standards but particularly performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on structures and equipment. Performs more routine, repetitive maintenance, installation, and repair tasks in one or a combination of the mechanical, building construction, motor equipment, and electrical trades. Incumbents may also perform journey-level activities under supervision, or after receiving detailed instructions, to learn and perfect their skills. Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the trade or trades to which assigned, working knowledge of safety standards and procedures, ability to use the tools, machines, equipment and materials of the trade to perform moderate to heavy manual labor, to understand and carry out written and oral instructions, to read materials of the trade to perform moderate to heavy manual labor, to understand and carry- out written and oral instructions, to read manuals, plans and specifications.
Illustrative tasks include but not limited to: ability to operate hand and power tools, repair, maintain, and service mechanical equipment, perform routine replacement and repair of plumbing and steam-fitting equipment, perform semi-skilled carpentry activities and, under supervision, assist in erecting and renovating buildings and structures, assists in repairing and maintaining locks, performs semi-skilled masonry repairs and installation activities, assists in painting and decorating work by performing interior and exterior painting, perform semi-skilled tasks of the electrical trade.
When deemed necessary by supervisor, incumbent may be assigned to other maintenance activities, such as snow and ice control. May occasionally operate trucks and light construction equipment.

Qualifications:
As per Civil Service Standards, two (2) years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.
Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and understand and carry out written and oral instructions. When required to operate a motor vehicle, applicant must possess and keep a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. The applicant must have and keep a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.
