  • At the CNRS, in the CINaM laboratory (UMR 7325), located on the Luminy campus in Marseille, the candidate will be in charge of experimental work on organic photovoltaic cells. This thesis project will be carried out within the FUN (FUnctional Nanomaterials) team of the CINaM laboratory and the LUMEN-PV (Light ultimate materialsnanodevices and PV) team of IM2NP. These teams have a great know-how in the realization and the characterization of components for opto-electronics. The thesis work will be focused on a task that is part of a joint laboratory project, named IOPV-LAB (Indoor Organic Photovoltaic LABoratory) funded by the ANR. The IOPV-LAB brings together the FUN and LUMEN-PV research teams as well as the company DRACULA TECHNOLOGIES (DT)

    Title : Organic printed solar cells for indoor: Realization and characterizations

    The objective of the project in which this thesis topic is inserted will be dedicated to the research in the field of organic solar cells (OSCs) performing under indoor conditions (I-OPV) and printed by the inkjet technique. The realized OSCs will be based on new Non-Fullerene Acceptor (NFA) materials using green ink formulations optimized in terms of efficiency and environmental impact. The first step of the thesis work will be to realize these OSCs and then their characterization. For this phase of characterization, a particular interest will be focused on the issue of applicable standards to determine the performance and stability of OSCs in an indoor environment. Indeed, the determination of the yield in an indoor environment requires today a fundamental work to develop new protocols of measurement, allowing to have a referential according to the light used and its intensity in indoor. The cells will be measured using this indoor referential which will be optimized for the present studies. In order to determine the stability of the OSCs under indoor lighting, the candidate will also develop adequate experiments to measure the photostability of the materials as well as the stability of the OSCs in an indoor environment. To this end, specific equipment for accelerated aging studies in an indoor environment will be developed. Stability measurement protocols and thus an accelerated aging setup will be proposed and developed. With the ultimate goal of demonstrating an OSC based on NFA materials giving higher yields than fullerenes - around 25% - with a guarantee of stability over 10 years, a screening of printable materials (active/interfacial layers/electrodes) will be carried out to determine those presenting the best stability in air and in indoor environment, but also those adapted to low cost encapsulation (i.e. with low diffusion barriers). The demonstration of an OSC giving yields higher than 23% with a stability guarantee over 10 years and using low cost barrier films will be expected at the end of the thesis work. In terms of innovation, these advances will position printed OPV as a key "energy harvesting" technology for the IoT world.

    The candidate should have a strong background in materials chemistry as well as in physics and chemistry-physics. The candidate should have excellent teamwork skills, initiative, analytical skills and a high degree of autonomy. The candidate should have a good level of written/spoken English (sufficient to write scientific publications/technical documentation and to communicate easily within international teams and at conferences).
