Position Summary Information

General Information

As a clinic nurse, responsibilities will involve clinic efforts to providing quality health care and education to JMU students. This individual will cross train and work in the following areas: General medicine, Lab, Urgent Care and Allergy Clinic. Works under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as LPN for Medical Clinics
  • Perform check-in for medical appointments
  • Confirm purpose of visit
  • Verify and update information including allergies and medications
  • Obtain vital signs
  • Prepare students for exam as needed
  • Document intake information in EHR
  • Assist with and/or chaperone exams
  • Perform medical procedures/treatments per qualifications
  • Assist Nursing Coordinator with Management of medical inventory, training and evaluation of Student volunteers
  • Serve as primary back-up for UHC lab technician
  • Serves as back-up or supplemental nurse in Allergy Clinic
  • Serve as assistant to Nursing Coordinator for inventory, volunteer training coordination and clinic scheduling.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned including: provide medical support to Urgent Care at day's end; provider support to the lab at the end of the day; special projects as assigned
  • Fulfills Medical Administrative Assistant role as needed
  • Serves as preceptor of LPN student as needed
  • Qualifications

    Required:

  • LPN license in state of Virginia in good standing
  • Additional Considerations:

  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience
  • Experience in a lab setting
  • Experience with vaccine administration and/or injectable medications

    The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

    The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on- campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
