Library Assistant

Radcliffe Camera, Radcliffe Sq, Oxford OX1 3BG and Bodleian Old Library, Broad St, Oxford OX1 3BG

We are looking for a customer focused Part-time Library Assistant to work in the historic Bodleian Old Library and Radcliffe Camera, assisting readers in their use of the library. You will undertake a range of duties on front line desks, at all times providing high quality customer service to readers and members of the public. You will also participate in sorting/re-shelving books and collection management projects across the library reading rooms.

The role involves lifting, carrying and moving books, and using trolleys.

You will be educated to GCSE level or equivalent, and have the ability to communicate effectively, confidently and courteously with readers, colleagues and the public. You will have good general IT literacy and a proven ability to perform routine tasks with care and accuracy. Reliability and the ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team in a busy working environment are essential. Previous experience of library work is desirable and familiarity with ALEPH / library databases would be an advantage, though full training will be given as necessary.

This is a permanent, part-time post working 18.25hrs per week across five weekday afternoons: Mon/Tues (2-5pm) and Wed/Thurs/Fri (1-5pm).

This role requires lifting and carrying boxes of library materials, pushing trolleys, climbing ladders and kick-stools in order to access some of the library's bookshelves and to re-shelve materials.

You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting evidence form (or supporting statement) as part of your online application. Your supporting evidence (or supporting statement) form should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one.
