Job Description

The School Counseling Program at the University of Massachusetts Boston seeks a non-tenure-track Lecturer (one-year appointment, renewable) to join the Department of Counseling and School Psychology in the College of Education and Human Development, beginning September 1, 2021. Responsibilities include: (1) teach master's level courses; (2) advise master's students; (3) assist in recruitment and selection of new master's students; and 4) contribute service to the University's urban mission, to University and Departmental committees, and to professional associations. The School Counseling Program is aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model and the Massachusetts Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs. The Program emphasizes a social justice agenda, especially focusing on the prevention and elimination of opportunity gaps. Students are prepared to deliver comprehensive school counseling programs. The program of studies is approved by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council.

Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology, or a field related to school counseling (e.g., School Psychology or Human Development with experience in school contexts) and evidence of excellence in teaching. Experience as a school counselor or other educator in urban schools is highly desirable. The successful candidate would join a department whose mission is to promote social and racial justice in diverse communities. Candidates with multicultural competence in the delivery of culturally and linguistically sustaining practices are particularly encouraged to apply. Licensed or license-eligible as a counselor in Massachusetts is also an asset.

The Department includes 20 full-time faculty, and serves approximately 300 graduate students working toward degrees in school counseling, mental health counseling, counseling psychology, and school psychology, as well as a certificate program in applied behavioral analysis. Our long-standing commitment to diversity is evident in the curriculum we offer and the scholarship we encourage. For information on our department and degree programs visit our website at https:// www. umb.edu/academics/cehd/counseling.
