  • About the Job

    Interview date: 27 October 2022

The fashion offering at the University of Northampton was established in 1996 and has developed into a well-respected range of programmes with good links to industry. We attract significant funding through bursaries via The Worshipful Company of Cordwainers and The Worshipful Company of Leathersellers as well as The British Council and industry partners. We regularly partake and win prestigious awards such as the 2022 Footwear Award at GFW and in 2021 a hat trick of award winners across Footwear, Accessories and Textiles with many additional students shortlisted.

As a university we are grounded in Changemaker values and embed this into the programme through social innovation projects and practical support, we look to enhance our student experience by offering them exposure to some of the top global international events such as Asian Pacific Leather Fair in Hong Kong, Dubai, Ningbo Fashion Week in China, Lineapelle in Italy, PV in Paris, APLF Dubai, Chennai Leather Fair and African Fashion Week, London.

In May 2021 the Fashion area has refreshed its offering by embedding sustainable and changemaker practices at the core of the programme. We have developed a programme that will future proof itself for the next period of considerable change in the fashion sector, enabling us to produce students ready to face and indeed innovate, within the emerging sector. The BA Fashion Marketing and Promotion programme is strategically important to the area with staff flexing between programmes within their specialisms. In January 2022 the areas of Fashion and Leather merged to form a new larger subject area capitalising on UON's unique global positioning as a centre for excellence in leather education. This has enhanced our role in delivering research and innovation for many of the luxury fashion brands.

The post is a teaching and learning post with a focus on a ‘super supportive' student experience. We would be open to applicants with a specialism in either Pattern Cutting/CLO3D or strong creative CAD skills including photoshop and Illustrator from varying backgrounds. The post will include working across the portfolio of programmes with your specialism, while providing personal tutorial support informed by HE teaching experience or wider industry support roles.

We want you to be able to carry out your work in a way that best supports UON and our students, but also you as an individual. We understand this may vary between different areas of the university as well as from one person to another. With Smarter Working you can work with increased flexibility, if you would like to, which can facilitate greater freedom and autonomy.

    About you

You will need to be student focussed with a commitment to learning and teaching which are key criteria for this post.

Significant experience of working with people from a diverse range of backgrounds is essential, alongside a commitment to developing students towards reaching their full potential.

  • the ability to lead the design and implementation of initiatives to enhance the student experience
  • the ability to work collegiately and flexibly as part of a team
  • a shared value in terms of our commitment to equality and inclusion in practice
  • Qualifications

    About Us

Come to the University of Northampton and you will see that we do things a bit differently.

We are one of the youngest universities in the UK but we are already leading the way in adding value to society, which we call social impact. We have won multiple awards for our work in this area, among others, but what matters the most to us is ensuring that our students and graduates have the opportunity to make their mark on the world too. That's why we were the first university in the UK to be named as a Changemaker Campus in 2012.

We want to break the mould of what Higher Education can be. This has led us to build a whole new University from the ground up that is designed to reflect the way that students actually learn rather than the way they are expected to learn. Waterside Campus opened in September 2018.

Our commitment to transforming lives and inspiring change is at the heart of all that we do.

    Right to Work

All candidates will be asked to provide proof of eligibility to work in the UK at interview.

    Equality

The University of Northampton is committed to providing a vibrant, ethical and sustainable work, study and living environment that values equality, diversity and inclusion.

This commitment, along with our legal and moral obligations, provides an inclusive environment for staff, students and the public who may be affected by our activities.

Together @ UON confirms our commitment to equality and inclusion, underpinned by our belief in taking action. We are dedicated to creating an environment that celebrates equality and harnesses the power of diversity.

Together @ UON demonstrates our pledge to our staff, students and partners to nurture and develop an environment where equality and inclusion can thrive whilst we Transform Lives and Inspire Change.
