Lecturer: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £45,751 to £50,798 per annum with potential progression to £63,059 per annum Senior Lecturer: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £55,753 to £61,942 per annum with potential progression to £76,988 per annum
About the Role
This role will have a significant impact on the shape and future direction of our activities in aircraft MRO (via DARTeC – The Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre), as the IVHM Centre who is part of DARTeC is leading the MRO activities within the University. The role will also build an independent portfolio of research and student supervision. The contribution will be in the area of Digitalization & AI for Predictive Maintenance.
You will hold a PhD in Engineering or similar industrial/research experience, with experience of industrially sponsored management research. With excellent communication skills, you will have expertise in the area of Digitalization & AI for Predictive Maintenance. You will be a qualified and experienced individual who would be responsible for the development and delivery of research and high-quality teaching at postgraduate level in one or more of: (i) Non Destructive Testing and Health Monitoring tools in Transport Systems, and/or (ii) Developing hardware and/or software solutions for automated damage assessment, and/or (iii) Artificial intelligence and digital twins in predictive maintenance for aircraft operations. The Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) Centre is a joint effort by Industry and Academia to develop state of the art diagnostic and prognostic capabilities that change the way services are provided today. The IVHM Centre was launched by Cranfield University, Britain's premier postgraduate, research intensive university together with Boeing, Rolls Royce, BAE Systems, Meggitt and Thales in 2008. It is located at Cranfield University's Cranfield site. The Centre is now globally recognized, having defined the subject area and further developing new areas of expansion. The development of the Centre, along with other areas in the University, significantly contributed to the recent DARTeC (Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre) proposal success. Through DARTeC, the IVHM Centre will be leading the MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) developments and activities with expertise and capabilities in UAV-Robotics Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspections, sensor monitoring, and advanced digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Twins (DT), tools that could be used to synchronize, monitor, and improve all processes related to Aircraft MRO.
