About the School of Mathematics and Statistics
The University of Melbourne's School of Mathematics and Statistics is one
of Australia's leading mathematics and statistics schools. It has achieved
this status through the high quality of its research and teaching programs.
The School offers a wide range of subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate
students and is involved in aspects of community life that impact on the

Infrastructure support for research and basic information technology

About the Role
The successful applicant will significantly contribute to research
conducted by the Applied Mathematics group, undertaking high-level research in
Applied Mathematics leading to a vigorous research program in the development
of applied modelling techniques and their application.
The Applied Mathematics group has existing strength in mathematical biology.
We are looking for someone to expand our physical applied applications to
increase connections between the school and other departments/faculties across
the University. Outside of mathematical biology the Applied Mathematics group
is working on interdisciplinary projects, including granular materials, fluid
dynamics and nanomechanics, using a range of continuous, discrete, numerical,
and stochastic approaches.
The incumbent will actively support the teaching efforts of the school,
supporting students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The lecturer
will develop curriculum at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
utilising online resources as appropriate, effectively deliver lectures and
tutorial classes, administer assessments and marking of that material and
undertake supervision of postgraduate students.

The successful applicant will be expected to undertake administrative tasks
for the School.
Effectively undertaking a range of administrative functions, including
those connected with teaching responsibilities and the conduct of the
academic affairs of the School
Actively applying and obtaining external research grant income to support
Conducting research and contributing to knowledge through scholarship,
refereed publications and presentations
Actively participating in research seminars and conferences
The successful applicant will have a strong publication record in applied
mathematics, including mathematical modelling and associated analytical and
numerical methods and demonstrate research excellence in relation to career
The candidate will have the ability to develop research links nationally
and/or internationally, and attract funding through grant applications, also
having a strong commitment to teaching and the supervision of research
students at undergraduate, MSc and PhD levels.
While not essential, experience in lecturing large undergraduate classes and
teaching applied mathematics will be highly regarded.
